Two-thirds of northern Rajasthan were ruled by Jat rajas or nobles

At least, the last Maharaja of Bikaner accepted in his book 'The Relations of the House of Bikaner With the Central Powers (1465-1949)' that prior to his Rathore ancestors (in the 1480s), two-thirds of northern Rajasthan were ruled by Jat rajas or nobles. The book in the picture is still considered the best book on the history of Rajasthan, written by Colonel James Tod between 1820 and 1832, and it mentions seven major Jat noble families. - By Shivatva Beniwal
