Jat Genetics DNA

The Jat genetic heritage has two main and equally important factors: L1a2 Y haplogroup (30-45%) and Steppe MLBA autosomal ancestry (30-45%), which is a unique combination in the contemporary world. Both of these two factors must be taken into consideration to judge or decide whether or not another population group is genetically related to the Jat.

For instance, the Gujjar is not related to the Jat because they lack both of these two factors, even though they look like the Jat, due to their elevated Iran Neolithic autosomal ancestry. Similarly, the Brokpa, Burusho, and others are not related to the Jat even though they have a higher frequency of L1a2 Y haplogroup (50% plus) because their Steppe MLBA autosomal ancestry is very low.

There exists a population called the Ghrit or Choudhary, residing in Himachal Pradesh, whose primary Y haplogroup is L1a2 (40% or greater). However, to establish their genetic relationship to the Jat, it is essential to confirm that their Steppe MLBA autosomal ancestry falls within the range of 30-45%.

N.B. Azad Siddhu suggests I should add another important factor to the Jat genetic heritage, that is, the proportion of AASI ancestry being less than 20% of the total genome. - by: Shivatva Beniwal
